Welcome to TheFreelanceWriters home page. I started this brand new site today, November 21, 2009. I'm dedicating this site to all the aspiring freelance writers who are looking for some good advice on getting started off on the right foot. With over 35 years experience as a freelance writer, I have experienced all the trial and tribulations, all the frustrations faced by the aspiring freelance writer. Finally, after years of struggling to balance my writing career with a day job my freelance writing brings in enough money so I was able to give up the day job.
As an aspiring writer the biggest hurdle that I faced was getting my material published because the first thing that almost every editor asked me for when I queried them on doing an article for their publication was to see my clips. Clips was a problem for me as they are for most aspiring writers because you can't develop clips if you can't be published and, as a rule, you can't be published without them. Back in the days, I broke into print by writing for the adult fiction markets. The problem with that was that I was getting clips in genre that wasn't a genre that I really wanted to write for. I wanted to write nonfiction articles and the nonfiction editors weren't accepting those clips as proof of my abilities. Adult fiction was easy to write and it did start bringing in money to pay the bills so I kept at while I struggled to sell my first nonfiction articles that I wrote and sent in as over the transom manuscripts. Slowly, I started getting clips there too. Still, it was a very long frustrating journey. Today the aspiring writer has a much easier way to establish himself as a writer. Today the aspiring writer can establish himself by writing for various online sites and there are multitudes of them looking for writers who can produce quality material.
